Pomegranates are grown in the warm climates of Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan and are sometimes featured in rug designs. This piece is made all the more stunning by the dark chocolate ground, with hues of aubergine colouring. The wool pile is incredibly thick and sumptuous, a delight to touch with the most luxurious feel.

The Baharlou are considered the largest Turkic tribe in Central Iran, many of whom are still migratory. A nomadic lifestyle that relies upon the ability to move freely to new lands for the sheep to graze upon; they will move their families each year, packing their tents and belongings and moving some 500 miles. The Interesting life is reflected in these desirable tribal rugs. The designs are unwritten, inspired by their lifestyle and surroundings. The carpets will almost always be 100% wool on wool naturally dyed, often showing a fair amount of Abrash. The yarn is exceptionally soft and luxurious. This rug has an unusual pomegranate design set against a warm dark brown.

According to evidence, the art of carpet weaving existed in Iran in ancient times, such as the 2500-year-old Pazyryk carpet dating back to 500 B.C., during the Achaemenid period.

Weaving in Iran is often undertaken in towns and villages. Each area produces designs passed on through the centuries, helping the most discerning buyer identify where a carpet or rug has been made. In addition to these pieces, some rugs come from the last nomadic people in Iran, the Qashqai tribe. In some instances, these people have also settled and continue to produce excellent pieces, often known as Qashquli rugs.

The Persian carpet is an essential part of Persian art and culture. Carpet weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished Persian culture and art manifestations and dates back to ancient Persia.

Wool is the most common material for carpets, but cotton is frequently used for the foundation of city and workshop carpets. In addition, there is a wide variety of types of wool used for weaving.
